How are our cat furniture for special needs cats?

Having special needs cats you want to do what’s best for them. From buying the best supplement, the best food, the best toys and the best cat furniture. Well, spoiler alert, Purrniture is G-R-E-A-T for your special needs kitties, and here’s why.

Our very good friend, Kris, behind the @CampWobblyCat and @TippyTuxies accounts, has three special needs kitties and she loves our Purrniture. We asked her a couple of questions about having wobbly kitties.

Interview with Kris

Kris is managing the Instagram Account : TippyTuxies

The Tippy Tuxies are Rosie, Daisy, and Calvin – a trio of littermates with Cerebellar Hypoplasia – that started as Kris’ very first foster kittens, then became her only foster fails. They’re more than just another cat account; they’re all about showing how awesome special needs cats are! They want everyone to see that wobbly cats lead full lives, no matter their challenges. By sharing their stories, they hope to inspire more people to open their hearts and homes to special needs cats; fostering a community of understanding and care.

She has continued to foster orphaned kittens, special needs kittens, and be an advoCAT on her other account: Camp Wobbly Cat.

How did you end up with Rosie, Daisy and Calvin?

I met Rosie, Daisy and Calvin doing adoption photos for a local rescue in July 2016. Their foster caregiver was going on vacation so they needed somewhere to stay. I offered to foster them and they never left!

What are some of the adjustments you needed to make for your wobbly cats?

My home is mostly carpeted to provide traction to make it easier to get around and to provide padding for their falls. They have easy access to low entry litter boxes to make it easier to get in and out of. They had their cat towers custom made by Purrniture so that they are no higher than it is safe for them to fall from. With wobbly cats, it's not a matter of if they will fall, but to make it as safe as possible for when they do fall. We also have our railing banisters and stairs blocked off for extra safety.

Do you think our Purrniture designs help your wobbly kitties?

The carpeted designs make it easier for wobbly cats to climb since they can't jump. The shorter designs (especially if you have them customized) makes them plenty safe for cats that are prone to falling. I just recommend that you have a big rug or carpet underneath for padding. The carpeted stairs are also very useful for wobbly cats to use to get and down from beds, sofa, and other furniture.

Which one of our Purrniture is your favourite and why?

We have two of the Sleeper models that were custom made at a shorter height than the standard model and for one of them, an extra step was added to make it easier to climb. They also like to climb to the top of the single cubby.

Any recommendations for people who would like to rescue a wobbly cat?

Wobbly cats are loving and wonderful pets! It just takes a few simple accommodations to make their environment more accessible and safe, and a willingness to accept that they move a little differently. They love doing all the same things cats without disabilities like to do like play, cuddle, take naps, watch birds out the window and of course demand that their snacks be served on time.

If you have special needs cat and are looking for the purrfect cat furniture, have a look at our Purrniture. And if you’d like to learn more about Kris’ wobbly kitties, we definitely encourage you to follow her on social media, she does an amazing job educating people and showing how fun her cats are!
